Between 1988-1996 Richard lectured in the adult education departments of Glasgow and Strathclyde Universities.
He has taught courses for the W.E.A. and in 2016 became an Arts Society accredited Lecturer.

"As an artist I am especially interested in what makes the art world the way it is today, in particular the impact of Academic art: what art was like before it appeared; how its values redefined what art was, and how it was taught; and how it shaped "The Establishment" that led to the Modernist rebellion."
